Regional Hospital of Verona is a point of reference for the whole region and isrecognized as a medical center at national level for highly specialized tasks that are performed in different areas of research, support and training.

The Company has two locations: the Civil Hospital Staff (CMO) of Borgo TrentoHospital and Polyclinic “GB Rossi “of Borgo Roma.

There are numerous excellence activities carried out (including: transplants,neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, burn center andoncohaematology) and 13 regional reference centers.

Hospitalizations

In 2006, ordinary admissions have been 57538 and the in day- hospital 22994outpatients. First half 2007: 29379 inpatient admissions, outpatient 9909. In the first half of 2007 patients from other provinces were 6301, from other regions2192.

The percentage of patients from other regions and provinces is an average of21.62% and in particular: 52.35% for heart surgery, neurosurgery for 60.43%, 70% for surgery sterotassica (Gamma Knife), 59.56% for infantile neuropsychiatry, 50.46% for ophthalmology and 86,05% for cystic fibrosis(center with most cases in Europe).

Benefits for outpatients

The performance for outpatients in 2006 have been 4,256,757; people who were paid benefits have been 787,506 outpatients.

Every day on average:

• there are a total of 218 resignations of which about 35 concern people coming outside the region
• 1303 people are hospitalized in inpatient ordinary and 404 in recovery daytime
• 111 patients are undergoing surgery (including 36.2% of daytime in-patient day surgery)
• 2158 people are turning to specialist clinics for external
• benefits are paid about 388 in First Aid
• 12 patients are hospitalized in intensive care beds
• 182 patients are on dialysis
• 10 children are born.

• Transplantations

For many years the Hospital has been active in the field of organ and tissuetransplants, having performed the first kidney transplant as early as 1968. Thenthe other activities were initiated for heart transplants, cornea, bone marrow, lung and liver.

In 2006 were performed 17 heart transplants, 22 liver, 52 kidney, 82 bone marrow transplants, 47 of skin, 167 of musculo-skeletal tissue, 104 of the cornea.

The collaboration of the hospital with the Faculty Hospital of Medicine andSurgery makes care that teaching and research are integrated and that thediagnostic and therapeutic processes are constantly innovative, updated andrefined. This harmony also allows a training program that is constantly updated and high quality both for the medical figures and for the professional figures.
